Priority Based Budgeting – Objective #8

Today we look at Objective #8: Enhance and steward public spaces, green spaces and food systems in the City of Victoria’s draft Strategic plan (see page 11). Fun fact is that when the plan was being built, this objective was actually #1. I have made a direct clip of their Feb 3 discussion of this objective and pasted it in below. Continue reading Priority Based Budgeting – Objective #8

Priority Based Budgeting – Objective # 7

Today we also looked at Objective # 7: Facilitate Social Inclusion and Community Wellness. As noted in this draft Strategic plan (see pages 8-9), this is a popular objective with many associated outcomes and actions. I have made a direct clip of their Feb 3 discussion of this objective. Priority Based Budgeting – Objective # 6

Today we look at Objective #6: Make Victoria More Affordable to examine Council intentions and plans for financing proposed initiatives.  One point of caution regarding this objective is that associated items also seem to appear in various other areas of the City’s draft strategic plan, which will either make things more efficient or cumbersome going forward when the City moves towards implementation and assessment of their efforts.

March 19 PLUC Summary & Observations

I got approached by Katie Hamilton, Director Citizen Engagement and Strategic Planning after the meeting. She first asked that I not tweet about staff, and then she sat down to ask how I was doing and inquire about my long term plans. She seemed  very nice and genuine but she caught me off guard and this led only to awkward rambly mumbles from my side.

March 12 Council Summary and Observations

It was a packed house last night – absolutely packed. At first I wondered why everyone was there, but it soon became clear that the focus of the night was the Public Hearing for the proposed Capital Park Development in James Bay. Despite my Early Thoughts and intention to stay for the duration of the meeting, I got up with pretty much everyone else and left at 10pm once a unanimous vote had been cast by Council in support of rezoning required by the Capital Park.
